Job Description
Stepdown nurses monitor patients who are recovering from serious illnesses, surgeries, or procedures. These patients may still be at risk for complications, so the nurse closely monitors vital signs, heart rhythms, oxygen levels, and other critical parameters.
They often work with specialized equipment like cardiac monitors and oxygen therapy to ensure patient safety.
Stepdown nurses manage the care of patients who are not critically ill but still need more attention than a general medical floor can provide. This could include patients who are recovering from surgeries like heart surgeries, major trauma, or patients with chronic conditions such as heart failure or respiratory illnesses.
